America X Reader Closer
You grunted and stumbled as your loud American classmate slapped you happily on the back, forgetting his strength in his excitement. His loud laugh filled your ears and you couldn't help but laugh along with him once you'd recovered. His goofy smile and optimism were contagious.
"Let's play some badminton, _____! We'll be a totally awesome team!!"
You'd been randomly partnered up with Alfred F. Jones to play badminton as a team during your fifth period gym class. Today was the class competition, meaning the teams would be rotating around the courts to play against each other in a game; the winners would receive a small trophy and gift cards for shops at the mall.
You were inwardly jumping with joy at being partnered up with Alfred and, unbeknownst to you, so was he. The two of you knew each other well enough, sharing a few classes together, but you weren't close enough to be classified as 'friends'. And that was something the two of you desperately wanted to amend.
"Totally! We'll win for sure," you giggled as Alfred hit the shuttlecock up into the air with his racket while grinning down at you. The other pairs around the two of you glared at the competition as you made your way over to the courts for your first match.
Alfred and you made for an invincible team. With his strong arm and your quick reflexes, the matches were a cinch, and by the time the competition was over, the two of you were both jumping around with adrenaline and the thrill of victory.
"YES!! THE HEROES SAVE THE DAY AND TRIUMPH OVER EVIL YET AGAIN!!" Alfred yelled out as the rest of the class scowled at him. He ignored them and laughed, sending a shuttlecock flying over their heads while you fist-pumped into the air.
"VICTORY! Bask in the glow of our pure awesomeness!!" you shouted as the teacher hesitantly handed over the prizes and you waved them above your heads. Alfred laughed and pulled you into a bear hug, lifting your feet off of the ground to twirl you around in circles. You couldn't wipe the smile off your face, even as the bell rang and the rest of the class turned to leave. He let you go reluctantly and appeared to blush slightly as you beamed up at him but his sudden shyness didn't last long.
"We made such an awesome team, ______! We should definitely partner up again!!" he said loudly, his blue eyes sparkling with eagerness as he grinned.
"Totally!" you giggled as the two of you were ushered off the courts by your teacher to get to your next class.
That evening, the last person you were expecting to see was your teammate.
Walking your dog through the local park, you'd calmed down significantly since that afternoon though the memory of your victory still brought a sappy smile to your face. As you waited by a tree for your dog to finish doing its business, your reverie was interrupted by a familiar voice shouting by the basketball courts from the other side of the footpath.
"Oh, c'mon Mattie I'm already ahead by six points! Put your Canadian back into it!"
You couldn't hear the reply, but from the sound of it Alfred was playing one-on-one with his brother Matthew. You whistled to your dog and made your way over to the court which was surrounded by a high wire fence. Without the shade of the trees, the afternoon heat immediately assaulted you as you spied the two blondes playing ball.
"Go easy on me, Alfie! I'm a hockey player, not a basketball pro like you," Matthew complained in his usual quiet voice as Alfred dribbled and dodged around him to shoot another hoop. You blushed slightly at the sight of him; sweaty and smiling, his t-shirt fitted around his strong shoulders and his cheeks flushed with exertion.
He stopped suddenly and turned around to see you standing on the other side of the fence, your dog snuffling around your legs impatiently. Alfred stared at you for a second, silently admiring your pretty face before he snapped out of it, breaking into a big smile.
"_____! What're you doing here?"
"Just taking _____ for a walk. I've been neglected him/her lately, so I thought we'd take advantage of the sunshine," you smiled over at Matthew, who was quietly trying to catch his breath behind his brother.
"Ah, I see. It's the same with Mattie and me! He needs his exercise, y'know," Alfred grinned and ignored his brother's soft protests at his comparison between him and your dog.
You giggled and replied, "I'm surprised you have any energy left after the competition this afternoon. You really have a lot of stamina, huh?"
Matthew looked from you to his brother; the way he smiled at you, the way he moved closer to you as he spoke
Matt smiled and grabbed his bag before tapping his brother on the shoulder to get his attention.
"I'm gonna head home, Alfie."
"Aw! But we were just getting started!"
"Yeah, but I just remembered I've got some homework to do. I'll see you later," he said quietly, winking at you before walking away.
"I hope I didn't interrupt you guys," you mumbled, biting your lip as your dog curled around your feet and licked your ankle.
"Nah, it's cool. Hey! Why don't we go for ice-cream or something, _____? It's so hot out it'll be my treat!" Alfred said as he ruffled your hair affectionately, making you giggle.
The two of you spent the rest of the afternoon casually sauntering around the park with your ice-creams, enjoying the warmth and each other's company. As it turns out, Alfred and you had a similar sense of humour and quite a lot in common.
You could hardly believe that such a fit guy could be so obsessed with junk food; he'd already demolished his ice-cream before you'd even reached the cone. It suited him, however you could imagine Alfred devouring hamburgers by the dozen, trying to speak through a mouthful of fries. As the two of you talked, you couldn't help but notice how
loveable he was.
As the sun begun to set, Alfred insisted on walking you home, claiming, "The hero will protect you from strangers!" You'd been unable to refuse his cute smile and accepted gladly.
When you finally arrived at your house, you felt that you could definitely call Alfred your friend now. Though, when he cleared his throat and shyly leaned down to place a soft kiss on your cheek, you felt that maybe as you became closer you could be even more than friends
"We should totally hang out again, _____," Alfred mumbled before he turned to go, "Outside of school, I mean. And in school, too. I had an awesome time with you today!"
"Thanks, Al! I definitely have to agree with you. Hanging out with the hero today was pretty damn awesome," you replied, smiling sweetly as he blushed and returned the smile with a goofy grin.
"Seeya tomorrow, ______!"
